Watch the Inspiration behind The Hawksbill Project!

In 2025, THP is headed to Honduras!

We asked for project proposals from numerous hawksbill turtle projects around the globe in our on going effort to assist in the preservation of hawkbills. Protector submitted an outstanding plan for the first in water assessment of the island of Guanaja.

OUR MISSION

Our Mission

To bring people and sea turtles together in a shared journey of discovery, understanding, and conservation

HAWKBILL SEA TURTLES

HAWKSBILL SEA TURTLES ARE CRITICALLY ENDANGERED. THIS MEANS THEY FACE THE REAL THREAT OF EXTINCTION. THEIR EXPLOITATION DATES BACK CENTURIES AND MAY BE THE MOST OVER EXPLOITED SEA TURTLE SPECIES

THE HAWKSBILL PROJECT

THE HAWKSBILL PROJECT IS A NEWLY CREATED U.K. BASED SEA TURTLE CHARITY. THE HAWKSBILL PROJECT WAS CREATED TO FOCUS ON THE  MOST AT RISK, OR UNIQUE HAWKSBILL POPULATIONS UNDER THREAT

SAVING A SPECIES

IF HAWKSBILL SEA TURTLES ARE GOING TO HAVE ANY CHANCE OF RECOVERY, THE FOCUS MUST EXTEND TO INCREASING THE ABUNDANCE OF THE MOST VULNERABLE AND SECLUDED POPULATIONS

MISSION COMPLETE!

CARRIACOU, GRENADA,W.I.The Hawksbill Project raised $12,000 dollars to assist Ocean Spirts (research aided by the University of the Virgin Islands Sea Turtle Research and Conservation) in completing the first in water assessment of the population of sea turtles around the island of Carriacou. This study can be used as a baseline study for the island and allow the local Grenadian government to make informed decisions.

2025 PROJECTS

Petite Riviere de Nippes, Haiti: home of the Haiti Ocean Project this project is highly anticipated due to the threats hawksbill sea turtles face in Haitian waters. This will be the first documented study of hawksbills in Haiti with the ultimate goal of discovering their natal origin and working with local fisherman to become citizen scientists.

Guanaja, Honduras: this project was delayed a year but 2025 is the year! THP looks forward to assisting PROtector and their mission to research, preserve, and conserve the hawksbills of Honduras.

St. John, US Virgin Islands: Year 3 of this highly anticipated project. The goal will be the same. Assess the population of hawksbill turtles around St. John but at the same time, attach satellite tags to the largest turtles in the study to examine their habitat usage and movement as they progress into adulthood.
